Home after round #6
Carly & Mom arrived home Tuesday afternoon after a long six days. Carly had her first ambulance ride this past Friday... this is how she was transported to her radiation appointments at MGH from Children's and she also had a ride on Monday. She loved it when the EMTs turned on the lights and the sirens for her.
Overall, she felt pretty good last week as this round doesn't bother her as much as the short one. She tends to get bored and it's hard to keep her entertained. We were able to get a private room for a couple of nights and she liked that a lot. We also had lots of visitors!
Her biggest complaint right now is her back. She has a nasty burn from the radiation and it's starting to peel and itch her a lot! She has special ointments to help with the itch and since we've been home she's only gotten sick once.
Carly now has only 5 radiation treaments left (Yeah!!) and nobody is happier than Carly and Mommy. Carly & I can't thank Jammie(Roy's mother) & Uncle Noel enough for driving us in to Boston sooooo many times. They both helped make the journey much easier for us and we thank them very, very much.
Round #7 is tentively scheduled for December 12th,..we'll keep you posted. Thanks for all the messages, we love them!!

THURSDAY NOVEMBER 21 2002
Carly starting her chemo
Carly is finally starting her chemo today. Her blood count is still low but they feel she can start the next cycle. Because it has taken her so long to recover after her last round, the amount of chemo she will be receiving this time will be reduced.

FRIDAY NOVEMBER 01 2002
Getting Ready for round #6
Carly is finally done with her injections. This round was an all time high of 13 injections. Because her counts were so low she had to have a red blood cell and a platelet transfusion. Thankfully her counts are up enough so she doesn’t require the injections.
Her red blood cells or “crit” is still very, very low but they said she’ll be okay until next week.
This round of chemo really took a toll on Carly, and she is just now starting to feel better. We visited the Jimmy Fund four unscheduled times in one week, on top of her daily radiation appointments at MGH. She’s doing an excellent job staying still during her radiation treatments. The staff at MGH can’t get over her. They commented that some children older than Carly need to be sedated because they will not remain still.
Last Saturday Carly’s Aunt and Uncle organized a fundraiser for Carly. They had an excellent turnout. When we arrived it was standing room only. We were originally reluctant to bring Carly to the fundraiser because she was neutropenic, but we felt the event would lift her spirits.
Carly and Kelcie were able to go trick-or-treating yesterday at Dana Farber. They started on the 16th floor and made their way down to the lobby. They had a ball and a lot to candy too. Wednesday will be here before we know it so we are planning to enjoy a family weekend together. Round #6 is a long one so we’ll be in until Monday, November 11th our 13th wedding anniversary.
Thanks everyone for your prayers and messages of support. They never fail to lift our spirits.
